写真家谷口雄介の福島に関する本を販売するネットショップです。

2006年より週刊誌の契約カメラマンとして芸能、皇室などの取材を担当。
2011年3月11日より東日本大震災の取材を継続中。

2026年3月11日。あの日から、丸15年が経とうとしています。

私と震災の関わりは2011年3月12日、津波で甚大な被害を受けた宮城県仙台市若林区荒浜から始まりました。当時35歳だった私は、初めて目にする光景を前に、ただ言葉を失いました。

圧倒的な現実を前に、ただカメラを向ける。そのことだけが自分に役割を与え、その場に踏みとどまらせてくれました。海岸に近づくにつれ、足もとの泥水がだんだんと透明な海水に変わってゆく――。その変化に覚えた恐怖を、今も鮮明に記憶しています。

その後、私は福島に軸足を移し、関わりを持ち続けてきました。そこで、原発周辺の町にあるフレコンバッグの「異常な光景」が、「日常の景色」へと上書きされていく感覚に、違和感を抱くようになりました。この違和感を表現するため、ドキュメンタリー、赤外線、ストリートビュー、画像生成AI、水溶紙と、あえて多様な手法を混在させています。被災地の場所や状況、流れる時間によって、「現実」と「表現」の成分比を変える必要があったからです。

私自身、まだ未だにうまく言語化できていない部分が多々ありますが、その「割り切れなさ」こそが、原子力災害の本質かもしれないと感じています。

これらの作品が契機となって、あなたなりの被災地との「繋がり」を見つけていただけることを願っています。

March 11, 2026. Fifteen full years have passed since that day.

My connection to the disaster began on March 12, 2011, in Arahama, Wakabayashi Ward, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, an area devastated by the tsunami. I was 35 at the time, and faced with a sight I had never seen before, I simply lost the words to describe it.

Facing that overwhelming reality, all I could do was point my camera. That alone gave me a role, and let me stay in that place. As I got closer to the coast, the muddy water beneath my feet gradually turned into clear seawater. I still vividly remember the indescribable fear I felt at that change.

Afterward, I shifted my base to Fukushima and have continued my involvement there ever since. There, I began to feel a sense of unease as the "abnormal sight" of flexible container bags in the towns around the nuclear plant was overwritten, little by little, into an "everyday scene." To express this unease, I have deliberately mixed a range of methods: documentary, infrared photography, Street View, AI image generation, and water-soluble paper. This was necessary because the ratio of "reality" to "expression" had to shift depending on the place, the circumstances, and the passage of time in the disaster-affected areas.

There is still much I myself have not been able to put into words, but I feel that this very inability to resolve things cleanly may be the true nature of a nuclear disaster.

I hope these works can be a starting point for you to find your own connection to the disaster-affected areas.

Born in 1976 in Sapporo, Hokkaido.
Worked as a contract photographer for weekly magazines starting in 2006, covering entertainment and the Imperial Family.
Has been continuously documenting the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake since March 11, 2011.
