本作は、
原子力災害という出来事の
ほんの半歩、前に踏み出すことを試みた作品である。

無人となった福島の風景写真に、
画像生成AIを用いて
架空の住民を出現させている。
そこに写る人々は実在しない。

人物の生成に際し、
特定の人種や属性を指定していないにもかかわらず、
画面に現れたのは
白人と認識される人物像ばかりだった。

その結果を前に、
私はこの町の未来の住民像が、
かつてここで暮らしていた人々とは
異なる存在になるのかもしれない、
という考えに導かれた。

そして同時に、
その光景に強い違和感を覚えなかった
自分自身にも気づかされる。

本作は、
住民の帰還や移住政策といった
建前と虚構のあいだに立ち現れるこの感覚と、
なぜそれが
それほど不自然に感じられないのか、
そしてそこに
どのような可能性が潜んでいるのかを
問いかけている。

これらは全て、私自身の想像から生まれたものであり、
そこに写る人物はすべて架空の存在である。
ただし、実際に撮影した風景の上に
それらを重ねたときに生じた気づきは偶然であり、
同時に、決して起こりえないとも
言い切れない感覚を残している。

This work attempts to take a small step, just half a step forward,
toward what is called a nuclear disaster.

Using photographs of deserted landscapes in Fukushima,
fictional residents are introduced through the use of generative AI.
The people appearing in these images do not exist.

Although no specific race or attributes were specified
in the process of generating these figures,
all of the individuals that appeared were perceived as white.

Confronted with this result,
I was led to the thought that the future residents of this town
might be people different from those who once lived here.

And at the same time,
I became aware that I did not feel a strong sense of discomfort
toward these scenes.

This work reflects on this sensation as it emerges
between official narratives—such as policies promoting residents’ return or relocation—and fiction,
questioning why these images do not feel entirely unnatural,
and what possibilities may lie within that feeling.

All of this originates from my own imagination,
and every person shown here is fictional.
However, the realizations that arose
when these figures were placed onto photographs of real landscapes
were accidental,
and at the same time,
they leave a sense that what is seen here
cannot be dismissed as entirely impossible.
